Flights Resume at Scotland's Busiest Airport After Significant ATC System Failure

A systems problem at the airport's ATC meant no planes could arrive or depart from the airport.

Passenger services have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport after a major air traffic control outage halted all operations.

All aircraft movements were halted after an technical fault that was reported at approximately 08:30.

A number of travelers reported being stuck in jets at the stand during the disruption.

Services Recommence with Continued Disruption

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "patience and understanding".

However, significant disruption are likely to affect schedules. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been cancelled, with numerous other services facing hold-ups.

A spokesperson had initially projected that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be impacted.

"Travelers are urged to contact their airlines for the current status on their specific flights," officials reiterated.

Cause of the Chaos

The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an technical fault with its control tower systems vendor.

Travelers continue to be advised to check the status of their journey before traveling to the airport as residual delays are worked through.
